Prioritize your oral health in 2021

If you made a New Year’s resolution to prioritize your oral health in 2021, there are a variety of things you can do to achieve this goal. Cutting back on harmful habits – limiting sugar intake, cutting back on alcohol and quitting smoking – all will greatly help in this effort. Another main thing to do is schedule a dentist appointment.

The reasons below help outline the importance of making a dentist appointment a priority in the New Year:

  • Life could get busy after New Year’s, and like many tasks, scheduling a dentist appointment may slip farther and farther down your to-do list.
  • Even if you think that your oral health is in good standing, preventive care is an important way to maintain it.
  • If you wait too long, you may delay treatment on unknown cavities or other oral health problems which will require more complicated and costly treatment in the future.

You can find an in-network dentist using our “Find a Provider” tool on the TruAssure website. Then, you can rest assured that you’ll get the treatment you need.

Here are further reasons why you should visit your dentist regularly and how to maximize your dental benefits in the New Year:

Getting Preventive Dental Care Avoids More Costly Treatment

Regular preventive care allows the dentist to spot and treat oral health issues early, helping you avoid costly and serious dental problems in the future. Plus, most dental plans cover preventive dental care, such as cleanings, exams and X-rays, at little or no cost to you.

Oral and Overall Health are Linked

Your oral health is connected to your overall health. Studies show that gum disease is linked to numerous health conditions, such as diabetes and heart disease. In fact, more than 120 diseases can be detected by the dentist during a routine dental exam.1, 2 Dental visits can lead to early detection of serious conditions and should be a part of your overall wellness regimen.

Visiting a Network Dentist Saves You Money

With TruAssure, you are free to go to any licensed dentist, but you will save the most money when you visit a network dentist. TruAssure gives members access to an extensive nationwide dental network.* When TruAssure members visit a network dentist, they can save between 20 to 40 percent on their dental treatment. Network dentists accept TruAssure’s allowed fees as payment in full and cannot charge patients the difference between TruAssure’s allowed fee and their submitted fee. Here is an example of how much you can save when you visit a network dentist.

Your Dental Plan Benefits May Have Started Over this Month

With the start of a New Year, it’s important to review your dental benefits and know what is covered under your plan, your annual maximum amount and when your dental benefits start over.  Dental plans are either by calendar year or by plan year.  If your dental benefits are by calendar year, they renew January 1, meaning your annual maximum will reset at that time. Certain benefits may also reset at the beginning of your dental plan year, such as number of cleanings, exams and X-rays allowed with your plan, making it easy to get the preventive care you need to start the year off right.

Get the most out of your dental benefits this year and schedule a visit with your dentist. It will help you have a healthy smile, better overall health and more money in your pocket.
