How to Effectively Communicate Dental Benefits to Employees

Dental benefits can make a real impact for your business by helping your team stay healthy, smiling, and on the job. That’s because the preventive coverage provided by dental benefits may encourage your employees to visit the dentist. This, in turn, allows their dentist to catch and treat oral health problems early before they worsen and require time away from work.

However, dental benefits only make a difference if your employees use them in the first place! That’s why it’s so important to make sure your team understands how their dental benefits work, who to contact with any questions, and why it’s important to utilize their coverage

A well-communicated summary of your benefits package can also be a strong tool for retaining and recruiting top talent, as it is a tangible way to show that your company cares about employee well-being.

So, how can you get employees excited about their dental benefits?

Don’t just communicate options – communicate value

Your team needs to understand their benefit options, but it’s just as vital to communicate why the benefits you’re offering have value. Educate your employees about the importance of oral health by explaining:

  • Why preventive dental visits, which have little to no expense for members, can prevent cavities, gum disease, and many other oral health issues.
  • How oral health is linked to overall health and how their dentist can help identify and address any existing oral health concerns before they become more painful, time-consuming and expensive to treat.
  • Visiting an in-network dentist is one of the primary ways to save when it comes to dental care. In-network dentists have been credentialed by the benefits carrier and have agreed to reduced fees that save patients 20-40%, on average.

Share online resources and member discounts

Another way to help employees get full use of their dental benefits is by raising awareness of member tools and discounts on truassure.com.  Here employees can:

  • Learn more about oral health by reviewing helpful oral health flyers, brochures, tutorials, and more in the TruAssure Resource Library.
  • Log in for exclusive access to the TruPerks Member Discount Program, which includes savings on top brands like Philips Sonicare and Avent mother and baby products. There are also discounts for groceries, electronics, flights, and more!

Communicating these resources doesn’t need to be elaborate. It can be as simple as posting the information on your company’s intranet, in your employee newsletter, or in the employee breakroom.

Remember: Frequent communication is key

To encourage employees to use their dental benefits, it’s important to remind them about the perks early (during onboarding) and often (throughout the year).

Occasional email reminders will also help keep dental benefits top of mind for employees, so they don’t forget to make a dentist appointment when the time is right for them. These emails are also an opportunity to discuss the importance of oral health, inform employees about any updates to the plan, or ask for feedback.

Make dental benefits easy to understand

Promoting your dental benefits doesn’t need to be difficult or time-consuming – just remind them often about the perks and make sure they know where to go with questions.
